KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Robert Nesta Morgan, says the Government has achieved a historic milestone with a record-breaking investment of J$8.7 billion in road infrastructure for the 2024/2025 fiscal year.

Morgan, in a media release on Friday, April 11, said, “This record expenditure reflects our deliberate and sustained efforts to enhance national productivity and the overall quality of life for our citizens. Investing in modern road infrastructure translates directly into economic growth, safer communities, and improved daily lives.”

Morgan highlighted that this is an improvement over previous allocations, noting that “Compared to the mere J$560 million spent during the 2014/2015 financial year, this current achievement demonstrates how far we’ve come. Our roads are now safer, communities more connected, and commerce stronger.”

He said this spend underscores the Andrew Holness-led administration’s dedication to modernising the nation’s road network, enhancing connectivity, and improving road safety island-wide.

“This historic expenditure represents Jamaica’s highest-ever allocation to road maintenance, repairs, and development. It funded critical initiatives such as emergency road repairs, extensive rehabilitation projects, and expansion programs designed to drastically reduce travel times and boost road safety for motorists and pedestrians alike,” Morgan added.

The National Works Agency (NWA) spearheaded project implementation across rural and urban areas, delivering tangible and long-awaited improvements to communities nationwide.
