Cavalier trounce Federal to climb top of JWPL

WiFi United surprise hosts Real MoBay

Cavalier assumed the lead in the Jamaica Women’s Premier League points standings after thrashing Federal United 11-2 at The UWI-JFF/Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence on Saturday.

Cavalier’s win took them to 19 points from seven games, one more than unbeaten defending champions Frazsiers Whip FC, who drew a bye this round.

Arnett Gardens, who swamped Springers United 15-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, moved to third place on 13 points.

Shanel Spence of Cavalier and Shakira Douglas of Arnett Gardens both scored five times for their respective teams.

Spence, who had scored a double in their previous game against Springers United, also took over the scoring lead with 15 goals, one goal ahead of Frazsiers Whip’s Davia Richards.

Spence registered an eight-minute hat-trick to give Cavalier SC a fast start as she scored in the fourth, fifth and eighth minutes. Shadie Shirley, who had a brace, made it 4-0 in the 16th minute and Jynell Graham scored the fifth goal in the 28th minute.

Federal attempted to rally with Africke Beckford scoring in the 29th minute. Yasheka Lewis scored her fourth goal of the season, a minute into time added as the half ended 5-2.

Cavalier SC continued their free scoring ways in the second half as Spence got her fourth in the 52nd minute. Deshanna Cole, who got a second-half hat-trick, scored the team’s seventh goal in the 61st minute before Shirley added her second in the 70th.

Cole then completed her hat-trick with goals in the 72nd and 75th minutes and Spence got her fifth a minute second-half stoppage time.

At Anthony Spaulding Complex, Douglas took her goals tally to 13, as Arnett Gardens scored the largest margin of victory so far this season. They led 9-0 at the half-time break.

Suen Gregory, who hit a first-half double, got the scoring going from as early as the third minute. Douglas followed with a quick-fire hat-trick, scoring in the 10th, 11th and 18th minute while Gregory scored a fifth goal in the 19th.

Douglas then took up the baton and scored again in the 31st and 34th minutes before Tuanashae Hamilton got the first of her brace in the 39th. Arnett benefited from an own goal in the 41st minute to end scoring in the first half.

Tatyana Black notched a quick double to start the second half in minutes 57 and 62. Tasheka Reid converted a penalty in the 71st minute, while Shaunalee Johnson added one in the 76th minute. Black hit her second in the 82nd minute before Naomi Moulton scored the 15th in time added on.

Los Perfectos FC moved into fourth place after coming from a goal down to beat Mile Gully 2-1 in the Manchester derby at Mile Gully Community Centre.

Judeen Ebanks gave Mile Gully the lead after only six minutes but Venecia Reid equalised for Los Perfectos FC in the 32nd minute. An own goal decided the game in favour of the visitors who improved to 12 points.

At Jarrett Park, WiFi United scored two first-half goals to hand Real MoBay AFC their first home loss of the season.

Tashel Davis opened the scoring in the 11th minute and Kafele Gibbs adding a second in the 37th.

In the second game of the double header at Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence, Proven Girls got their first win of the season, upsetting UWI Women 1-0 with an 89th-minute goal from Julicia Pinnock.
