The family of Derrick Morgan is once again requesting a public apology from his daughter Queen Ifrica, real name Ventrice Morgan, who has been hit by a defamation lawsuit by the ska legend.

Merrick Morgan, a son of Derrick Morgan, reiterated the family’s firm unified resolve to clear the patriarch’s name.

“We intend to do all that is necessary and within the confines of the law to clear our father’s reputation of these terrible, malicious and baseless allegations,” businessman Merrick Morgan told Observer Online.

The defamation lawsuit, Derrick Morgan v Ventrice Morgan, moves on with a case management session on May 8 in the Supreme Court of Jamaica. This step is a court-scheduled session where parties come together to brief the court on the status of a case.

Charles ‘Advoket’ Ganga-Singh, who is representing the ska great, is looking forward to clearing his client’s name.

“We will be pursuing this matter in court with the utmost rigour,” Ganga-Singh said.
Queen Ifrica has retained counsel, Seymour Stewart, for the case as well.

In June 2024, the family of Morgan, filed a defamation lawsuit against Queen Ifrica, alleging “reputational damage for false allegations” she made against him in 2023.

According to the defamation suit, she made several allegedly defamatory statements, videos and interviews on August 1, 2023. In the video in question, Queen Ifrica revealed that as a child, she had an estranged relationship with Morgan due to issues surrounding her mother. However, as an adult, she attempted to reconnect with him.

Queen Ifrica’s allegations described a specific incident at Derrick Morgan’s Kingston residence which has befuddled the family, friends and neighbours of Mr Morgan. Shortly after the video was published, Morgan’s lawyer sent a cease-and-desist letter to Queen Ifrica requesting its immediate removal and apology.

Instead, Ifrica published another video weeks later with hyperbolic allegations attacking Derrick Morgan and making false statements about him on social media, the lawsuit alleges.

“We have always embraced her as part of our family and for her to do this has left us dumbfounded as it has potentially damaged our father’s stellar reputation,” Dr Courtney Morgan, another son of the ska legend, said.
