Cayman-based dancehall artiste Glamaton has launched a scathing attack on popular TikToker and recording artiste 119, challenging what he said were the blogger’s “dangerous”, misogynistic views.

Glamaton posted the rebuke on his social media pages last Friday with the hashtag #MenWhoRespectWomen.

“To 119, come off a di females back bredda, mi hope yuh tek a moment to reflect, seek forgiveness from di Almighty and choose to use your influence for good. Memba, as artistes, we’re supposed to lead and lead by example, and what you’re doing is reckless and dangerous,” Glamaton said.

“To use your platform as a bully pulpit to tear down anyone for likes and attention is something I’ll never understand. Disagreements should never turn into disrespect on/off social media. Social media platforms should be used to uplift, not degrade,” he chided.

The social media personality 119 was arrested last week and hit with a charge of malicious communication under the Cybercrimes Act in relation to two social media posts regarding a female of a St Catherine address.

The woman took umbrage with the posts and made a report to the Spanish Town police, after which 119, whose real name is Milton Wray, was arrested and charged, and then granted bail.

Glamaton feels that 119 is far too extreme in his misogynistic stance against women.

“To me, 119 goes too far to get attention and someone needs to push back. This time he is belittling a woman because he felt she tried to trick him, maybe it is over money. But in the past, I have seen where a woman is killed by her male partner, 119 makes assumptions that the murder is always the woman’s fault, ‘she gave the man bun’, ‘she caused this’… he is victimizing the victims,” Glamaton said.

Glamaton appealed to women to “never let the noise silence your light’.

“To the females who’ve been disrespected or made to feel small online or in private please know your worth is not defined by someone else’s ignorance, that’s on them. You are strong, valuable, and deserving of respect. Keep yuh head high above the waters, and never let their noise silence your light,” Glamaton said.

Glamaton is promoting his latest single, Woman Wah Money, which has been enjoying strong rotation in Jamaica, Grand Cayman, the US, England and Canada.

“This song is getting a lot of love from DJs all over the world and we’re turning things up more for the summer. Woman fi get money! Dem wah money, dem fi get it,” he said.

The hard-working entertainer is currently working on several new projects that are slated to be released next year.

Glamaton, whose given name is Kirk Mitchell, is from St Elizabeth. He launched his recording career in 2006 with the release of a single titled Love Again. He has performed at major stage shows like Sting over the course of his career.
