Sheer Delight takes World Vet Day Trophy
In an electrifying finish, four-year-old American-bred dark bay colt Sheer Delight claimed victory in the $1.25-million World Vet Day Trophy feature at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Trained by Dalton Sirjue and ridden by Omar Walker, Sheer Delight produced a stunning late surge in deep stretch to win the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward by a head.
The thrilling contest saw Sheer Delight beating Rhythm Buzz, ridden by Raddesh Roman, and Fearless Soul, ridden by Eric Haughton, in a time of 1:39.20 minutes over one mile (1,600m). The winning fractions were impressive, with splits of 24.0, 47.0, and 1:12.2, showcasing the colt’s exceptional speed and endurance.
Former champion jockey Wesley Henry and reigning champion jockey Raddesh Roman each secured two wins on the nine-race card.
Henry’s winners were Blitz Strike in the third race for trainer Phillip Lee and Bestdaughterinlaw in the fifth race for trainer Vincent Atkinson. Roman was successful aboard King’s Crown in the seventh race for trainer Steven Todd and Fearless Mission in the very next race for trainer Oral Hayden.
No trainer had more than one winner.
