A woman accused in a viral video of hurling a racial slur against a black special needs child has raised hundreds of thousands of US dollars via crowdfunding online which she claimed she needs to help protect her family amid threats.

Shiloh Hendrix was videotaped as a man confronted her about allegedly attacking and calling a five-year-old boy the ‘N word’ at a park in Rochester, Minnesota.

Hendrix defended her actions, claiming that the child had stolen her kid’s diaper bag.

When the man accused her of using “hate speech” against the child, the woman responded that she didn’t “give a s***.”

The man replied, “I have never seen anybody be a racist to a child on the spectrum of autism. Today, this is her.”

He added that he was going to release the video online for the public to judge her actions.

True to his words, the man released the video and it went viral drawing widespread condemnation on social media against the woman.

However, Hendrix has since launched a GiveSendGo account, identifying herself on the fundraiser page as the woman in the video.

The fundraiser, entitled “Help Me Protect My Family”, claimed that her personal information, including her address and Social Security number, had been leaked, and that she has been receiving threats online.

“I recently had a kid steal from my 18month old sons diaper bag at a park. I called the kid out for what he was,” she wrote. “I fear that we must relocate… We have been threatened to the extreme by people online. Anything will help! We cannot, and will not live in fear!”

The fundraiser up to Monday has raised more than US$600,000, with many donors defending her actions in the replies.
