KINGSTON, Jamaica – In celebration of Teachers’ Day, the Flow Foundation has announced the launch of a National ICT Teacher of the Year Award, a new initiative aimed at recognising and rewarding Jamaica’s top high school educators in information and communication technology (ICT).

Set to officially begin in 2026, the award will honour one outstanding ICT teacher who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy.

The announcement was made at a special Teachers’ Day recognition event hosted by Flow on Tuesday, at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel. Ten ICT educators from across Jamaica, and selected by their own students, were honoured for their leadership, innovation, and impact in the classroom. Tuesday’s event served as a precursor to the national award.

Speaking at the event, Stephen Price, flow vice president and general manager and chairman of the flow foundation, said “ICT teachers are more than educators—they are architects of the future. Every line of code they teach, every digital project they guide, is preparing Jamaica’s youth for a world powered by innovation. The National ICT Teacher of the Year Award is our way of saying: we see you, we value you, and we’re investing in you.”

The National ICT Teacher of the Year award will include individual prizes for the winning teacher, ICT upgrades for their school, and access to professional development opportunities. Nominations will open in early 2026, with the first recipient announced during Teachers’ Day celebrations next year.

The initiative has received strong support from the Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport.

Minister Daryl Vaz endorsed the programme, stating “This is a commendable and strategic move by Flow. Jamaica’s digital transformation depends on the strength of our educators, especially those guiding students in ICT. This award sets the tone for how we must value and uplift the teachers who are building our digital workforce.”
