KINGSTON, Jamaica — Despite credible information received by the Jamaica Observer, Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) President Michael Ricketts says he cannot confirm whether Dennis Chung will be stepping away as general secretary of the JFF.

The Observer understands that Chung will be resigning at the end of the month after serving in the post for close to three years.

The Observer was unsuccessful in getting a comment from Chung, but Ricketts confirmed that he also heard of Chung’s potential resignation but is yet to receive any official document stating such.

“I’ve heard rumours, but I have to treat it as rumours right now because he hasn’t tendered a resignation. He hasn’t written to me to say that he’s going, but I can’t formally comment until I get a formal document from him,” Ricketts said.

The JFF president says he is likely to know the decision on Thursday when Chung is set to return to work from leave.

“I haven’t gotten any official info from him to say that is so, but I hear it on the street. I’m waiting on him to speak to him, but he’s on a few days’ leave (and) he’s coming back tomorrow.”

Chung, a noted financial executive and chartered accountant, initially joined the JFF in 2020, having been appointed as the federation’s Finance Committee chairman.

However, he was given the nod as general secretary by the JFF leadership in November 2022 following the removal of the controversial Dalton Wint.

During his tenure, Chung has overseen significant administrative change, including FIFA lifting financial restrictions last March, which were imposed in 2020. The JFF also recently lifted its “going concern” status for the first time in two decades, which means that the federation is now seen as capable of sustaining its operations independently.

On the field, the Reggae Girlz reached the knockout stages of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, while the Reggae Boyz qualified for the Copa America last summer after finishing third in the Concacaf Nations League.
