G2K celebrates Mother’s Day with outreach at Cornwall Regional Hospital

ST JAMES,  Jamaica — Generation 2000 (G2K), the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party, brought smiles and appreciation to Cornwall Regional Hospital on Mother’s Day, May 11, by honouring 40 mothers with special tokens of gratitude.

The initiative, spearheaded by the St James chapter, marked its third successful year and continues to grow in impact and community significance.

Chairman of the St James chapter, Ricardo Robinson, expressed pride in the programme’s development and the joy it brings to new mothers.

“This initiative is now in its third year, and it has become an anticipated event at Cornwall Regional Hospital. G2K St James takes pleasure in treating our first-time mothers who are embarking on this life-changing and exciting venture,” Robinson said.

This year’s outreach also extended to a special group often overlooked—nurses who are mothers themselves. These caregivers, who balance professional and personal responsibilities, were recognised for their dedication and compassion.

“This year, we could not have left out our nurses who are mothers, as they are tasked with giving extra care both at work and at home. It warms our hearts to see the smiles and tears of joy on these faces, and we look forward to next year being bigger and better,” said Daveen Umrah, an executive member of the chapter.

The initiative continues to strengthen the bond between G2K and the wider community, enhancing the patient experience and acknowledging the vital roles of mothers and caregivers.

G2K President Shayne Kerr spoke about the organisation’s future plans for the initiative.

“Through our parish chapters, G2K hopes to include other parishes next year and beyond. I want to thank our sponsors who came on board to make this possible. As an affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party, it is in our DNA to care for our fellow Jamaicans—and what better place to start than with our mothers,” Kerr said.

G2K’s Mother’s Day outreach stands as a testament to the organisation’s ongoing commitment to community service, honouring those who nurture and lead both at home and in the wider society.
