Taxi operator suspected of drowning in Treasure Beach, woman rescued
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Police are probing the suspected drowning of a man at Frenchman Beach in Treasure Beach on Monday.
Relatives identified the victim as Dale Shaw, a taxi operator from Southfield, St Elizabeth.
Police confirmed the incident. However, residents and a relative told the Observer that about mid-afternoon on Monday, Shaw and a female companion – a visitor to the island- were at Frenchman Beach when they were warned to be careful due to the threat of riptides.
Further reports are that while in the water they were pulled under and swept away.
Locals went to their assistance and managed to rescue the woman.
However, Shaw sustained a wound to his head and efforts to conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) were unsuccessful.
He was pronounced dead at hospital.
