KSAMC to rename Ashoka Road in Waterhouse to Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce Drive

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) will formally rename Ashoka Road in the Waterhouse Division to Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce Drive, in honour of the Olympian.

The renaming ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025.

It follows the unanimous passing of a resolution to that effect in October last year by the KSAMC, presided over by the Mayor of Kingston, Andrew Swaby.

That resolution took note of the fact that the Honourable Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, OJ,CD was born and raised at Ashoka Road in Kingston 11, and is the only sprinter, male or female, to win five world titles in the 100-metre (2009, 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2022).

Sprint legend Fraser Pryce was also recently bestowed with the KSAMC’s highest honour, the keys to the city of Kingston, in February of this year.

The honour recognised Fraser Pryce for her achievements in track and field, and her dedication and contribution to the Waterhouse community and the wider Jamaica.
