Newly formed duo Stashang aims for global sound
After almost 30 years together as musical partners, StarFyah and Shango Trex agreed that 2025 would be the year they became an official act. Their plans included recording and releasing songs for an album.
Since the start of the year, the duo, known as Stashang, have released two songs. Where I Lay, the second of those tracks, came out early this month.
It is the follow-up to Give My Heart which was released in March.
While both songs have an uptempo, feel-good vibe, Shango Trex says each Stashang production is marketed differently.
“We are tapping into new spaces and connecting with a wider audience globally, so there will always be a different approach to how we market each release,” he told Observer Online.
Over the years, Stashang’s members have juggled a personal and professional relationship that has seen them perform on the North Coast hotel circuit and work at a reggae recording studio in Tokyo, Japan for several years.
StarFyah was born in the United Kingdom to Jamaican parents, while Shango Trex is from Kingston. Both pursued different musical interests, but last year decided to finally take the plunge and record songs as Stashang.
Based in New York, they aim for a global sound, but are eager to find an audience back home.
“Jamaica is home, and nothing beats hearing your song playing loud on your own turf,” said Shango Trex.
