Music industry insider Pantason is one of the leading dubplate procurement experts in the reggae-dancehall spheres. However, in recent years, he has been leading the music crusade as a producer, putting his handprints on some of the biggest songs and rhythm-driven projects released in this young decade.

“Recording dubplates is a creative exercise. Same goes for recording a new song. So both work. After most dub sessions, artistes do a song recording session, and that is how I got it done, is a natural progression, so most of my riddims were voiced after a dub session,” Pantason, whose real name is Taj-vaughn Johnson, said.

He is the son of legendary sound system selector “Di General” Pink Panther, known for his contributions to sound clash culture and his victories in World Clash competitions.

Now, Pantason is expanding his influence and he has unleashed a fresh wave of high-powered releases shaking up the dancehall and reggae scenes locally and worldwide.

Some of the standout projects include the Demand Riddim which features gritty street anthems from heavyweight dancehall acts such as Skillibeng, Squash, Skeng, 10Tik, IWaata, Najeeriii, and Pablo YG.

Another standout project is the popular Weed and Grabba rhythm project which features stoner soundtracks that sing the praises of marijuana with dazzling cuts from Eddy G Bomba, Rajahwild, Skillibeng, and Najeeriii.

“High energy meets high grade. This Weed and Grabba project has great yardman energy and vibes,” a proud Pantason said.

PantaSon also showed off his versatility as he dabbled in the roots revival genre with the Wild Fire Riddim project with tracks from music icons like Yellowman leading out the project with well-produced gems by Delly Ranx, Warrior King, Norris Man, and Exco Levi.

Pantason’s father, Pink Panther, also produced reggae tracks decades ago so he appreciates a producer’s key role in artistry.

“Whether the mood is melancholy, joyous, or downright reckless, producers are the song’s engine, as it’s the riddim which is the first thing that grabs our attention,” Pantason said.

Last year, PantaSon got major props for his genre-bending project, Tropical EDM, which fused dancehall, EDM and soca, and was powered by major contributions from a diverse cast of top notch talent including Konshens, Elephant Man, Bunji Garlin, and Nailah Blackman.

He racked up major streaming success with smooth yet spicy single, Butter, featuring vocals of his close personal friend, Trinidadian soca artiste Turner. Other projects include the Overtime Drive and Credit rhythm projects.
