KINGSTON, JAMAICA – Staff of Medical Disposables and Supplies (MDS), along with family, on Friday joined forces with the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) to refresh the Outpatient Department, creating a brighter, more welcoming environment for healthcare workers and thousands of patients seeking urgent medical care.

“This project represents our commitment to extending our ‘Taking Care’ ethos to directly supporting the spaces where Jamaicans receive critical healthcare. Our team understands that healthcare heroes deserve environments that reflect the vital service they provide to our nation,” said Kurt Boothe, CEO of MDS.

KPH CEO, Barrington Graham, expressed gratitude for the partnership, stating that, “There are many studies to show that the environment in which you work can have a profound impact on your spirit. When the environment is pleasing and uplifting to our staff, it will show itself in how they interact with the public and the level of service they offer.”

The initiative resonated deeply with volunteers.

“My mother always shared the story of her own experience at KPH. She almost lost her life and limb after an accident, and KPH saved both. She became a registered nurse, and I followed suit. On my weekends, I am a sessional nurse here and so, I wanted to be here today to beautify the area so that when patients come in, and I come in, I see a nicely painted area that I contributed to,” shared Deidre-Ann Gordon, Brand Manager at MDS and Labour Day Project Lead.

Business Development Manager Tricia Dawson added, “Labour Day traditionally is a day where persons commit to something meaningful. This hospital holds a special place in our hearts – our founder is a nurse, and my family has been treated here. It feels good to know that something as simple as painting can make it feel more welcoming for patients.”

Zara McLean, who accompanied her mother, Quality Control Pharmacist Yanique McLean, emphasised the visual impact. “An aesthetically appealing space can really help to lift the spirits of persons and help them feel more energised and not as gloomy. Imagine you walk into a space, and you see this amazing painted area. You feel way more comfortable,” she shared.

The project is a continuation of MDS’s support of the KPH and aligns with the company’s ESG commitment. The team used Green-wise certified, environmentally-friendly paint products to transform and beautify the exterior of the facility in alignment with Jamaica’s Labour Day 2025 environmental theme “Protect The Environment: Our Land, Our Duty, Our Future.”
