Olympic Games and World Championships medallist Shanieka Ricketts produced a season’s best 14.54m (0.2m/s) effort in the final round to win the women’s triple jump at the Boris Hanzekovic Memorial meet at Sports Park Mladost in Zagreb, Croatia. The meet is a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event.

Ricketts moved up to third in the world this year, bettering her previous wind legal season’s best 14.30m set in Doha and said afterwards that she was hoping to get “the right jump much earlier in the competition.”

Ricketts extended her unbeaten run in Zagreb with a sixth-straight win but trailed in the competition behind Slovenia’s Neja Filipic.

“She was pushing me,” Ricketts said. “She was leading from the start and I did not even realise until the third one. I was like, ‘Wait, I am actually on the second place.’ But I am glad I was able to put it together and end with the win today, because it was a really good competition — 14.54, cannot complain about it.”

Another Jamaican, Ackelia Smith, was fourth with 13.84m (-1.5m/s).

World Championships finalist Lamara Distin cleared a season best 1.92m for second place in the women’s high jump and said she was still working on a new approach.

The national record holder, both indoors and outdoors, who said she is targeting 2.00m this year, said, “It is all coming together, I feel like I just need more repetition and I will be fine. But it was a good competition clearing the heights with the first attempts. It is all going to come together when it is the right time.”

Former Olympic Games and World Championships gold medallist Omar McLeod was second in the 110m hurdles in 13.40 seconds (0.3m/s), a few days after he ran a season’s best 13.25 in Italy.

Dylan Beard, of the United States, won in 13.20 seconds.

Adelle Tracey was fourth in the women’s 1,500m in 4:09.53 minutes, behind two Ethiopians, Gudaf Tsegay, who set a meet record 3:58.14 minutes, and Birke Haylom, who ran 3:59.19.

Wayne Pinnock, who has won silver medals at the Olympic Games, World Championships, and World Indoor Championships, was fourth in the men’s long jump with 7.77m (0.5m/s).
