Stevie Face previews fourth album with remake of Lobo’s ‘I’d Love You to Want Me’
Singer Stevie Face is gearing up to release a faithful cover of American singer Lobo’s 1972 #2 Billboard Hot 100 single I’d Love You to Want Me.
Lobo’s original version, which was certified gold in America, topped charts in South Africa, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Austria, Australia and Switzerland.
Late reggae artiste John Holt released a version in 1973, which topped local charts for multiple weeks.
Stevie Face’s version of the song is a warm-up to the release of his fourth studio album, which is due out later this year. The song was produced by Rohan ‘Jah Snowcone’ Fuller and Mikey Bennett.
“John Holt was truly one of Jamaica’s greatest vocalists. Growing up, I listened to him alongside other legends like Dennis Brown and Gregory Isaacs. I always admired their soulful lovers rock style, which feels somewhat absent from today’s music. I aim to keep that classic reggae lovers rock spirit alive by singing songs like this John Holt masterpiece,” shared the St Thomas-based singer.
The singer spoke about his forthcoming album.
“This album is a monumental project for me. I’ve had the pleasure of working on this album with some of the best in the business, including Mikey Bennett, Tads, Big A, Snowcone, Kirk ‘Kirkledove’ Bennett, Lenky Marsden, and Dean Fraser. I’m creating a musical experience that reggae lovers worldwide will truly appreciate,” he told Observer Online.
He recently completed a video for the song, which is expected to be released shortly.
“We filmed the video at the iconic Tuff Gong Studio, and also captured scenes in different locations across Kingston and St Thomas,” Stevie Face explained. “I’m eagerly awaiting the final edit, but I’m already thrilled with what I’ve seen. Huge thanks to directors Amlak and Yacob for their outstanding work on this project. I can’t wait to release both the single and the video.”
Musicians who worked on Stevie Face’s version of the song (which is titled Want You), include Dean Fraser and Steven ‘Lenky Marsden.
