Soldier arrested after body found in parked vehicle in Suriname
PARAMARIBO, Suriname (CMC) — Suriname police say a 36-year-old soldier is assisting their investigations into the death of a man, whose body was found in a vehicle with a gunshot wound earlier this month.
The police’s public relations said that the matter had been investigated by the Capital Crimes department, in collaboration with the Paramaribo Investigation Assistance Team (RBTP) and the intelligence service of the Suriname Police Force.
It said that the 36-year-old soldier, who is attached to the National Security Directorate, has been arrested, and that after consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, the suspect was transferred to the military police as the investigation continues by a joint team of the police and the military police.
The police said that an autopsy will be conducted on the body of the man to determine the cause of his death. The man’s body was found in the vehicle on June 2.
