WATCH: JUTC driver surprised for Father’s Day

One special Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) driver was honoured last week when the passengers on his route came together and presented him with gifts for Father’s Day.

Robert Sharpe only began servicing the 309 (Phoenix Park Village 2 to Cross Roads) routes last November but has already made a big impact on his passengers.

“What more could we ask for?” a passenger queried during the gift exchange as she noted the comfort and safety of riding with Sharpe, adding that he routinely goes beyond his duties, even acting as a crossing warden for his passengers.

Shouts  of “big up yuhself Robert” peppered the video as a large gift basket was handed over to the driver, who made sure to add that he would not be on duty this Sunday.

Commenting on the video, Corporate Communications Manager at the JUTC, Shantole Thompson, said, “Seeing this video truly warms my heart. It’s important for the public to witness the dedication and pride our drivers bring to their work.

At 55 years old, Sharpe is well-versed in looking out for others, having raised two sons of his own.

Thompson added, “After speaking with Mr Sharpe, he shared that he considers himself more than just a driver; he sees himself as an ambassador for the JUTC. He also encouraged his fellow drivers to serve with the same passion and commitment.”
