‘Skeng for the streets’
Dancehall artiste to tell tough inner-city tales on new mixtape
Known for creating catchy singles that end up becoming anthems, dancehall artiste Skeng is looking to initiate another street takeover with the release of his latest project, 13th Street Tape.
An ode to his roots, the mixtape will showcase the artiste’s ability to tell tales of growing up in Kingston’s tough inner cities.
Released on his independent label, Ratty Gang Entertainment, the project, according to the entertainer’s team, is “a masterpiece built directly for the streets delivering raw creativity and weaving captivating stories that vividly depict inner-city life”.
“The 13th Street Tape is an unflinching look at the realities faced by many. While it may spark controversy, its impact will be undeniable as Skeng’s compelling delivery on each track brings these narratives to life, making the records resonate with powerful authenticity,” said Cara Burke, chief executive officer of Showtime Services, the artiste’s official booking agency.
Dubbing Skeng an artiste who understands the complexities of the streets, Burke says the entertainer has enlisted the assistance of several of his industry colleagues to polish off the project.
“The mixtape features an impressive line-up of producers, including Droptop, Countree Hype, Ditruth, JiggyD, and the legendary Fadda Bad himself… And with such a formidable team behind the boards, 13th Street Tape is truly bound to shift up the place,” she said.
Also reflecting on the release, Skeng expressed that having been sharply focused on the business side of music in recent times, he believed it was time to return to the streets with an even sharper mind.
“I’ve been on the other side of the business recently, so I was a likkle quiet. I had to turn the previous wins into long-term assets for my family. But this thing here is for me to connect back to the ground and shake up back di place with the big collabs and the billboard ting dem,” shared the artiste.
The project was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Aliendary Prince based at the famous Shocking Vibes Studio in Kingston, with most of the recording taking place at the luxury GeeJam Studios in Portland.
Distributed by OneRPM, 13th Street Tape is now available on all digital platforms.
Boasting a history of impactful releases with groundbreaking tracks like Likkle Miss ft Nicki Minaj, Protocol ft Tommy Lee Sparta, and
Gvnman Shift, the entertainer has solidified his place as a dancehall star. His mixtape comes on the heels of his highly anticipated Reggae Sumfest appearance where he’s expected to bring the heat to the streets of Montego Bay.
“Skeng is dancehall. It is written all over him and you hear it in all his songs. He is authenticity at its finest and that’s what he’s bringing to the Reggae Sumfest stage,” said Burke. “It’s going to be one of those performances you don’t want to miss…”
