USF’s 20th Anniversary Wi-Fi Watch Party lights up Lynch Park
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Universal Service Fund’s (USF) 20th Anniversary Wi-Fi Watch Party transformed Lynch Park into a glowing hub of digital access, culture, and celebration on Saturday.
What began as a plan to cater to 200 attendees quickly blossomed into an electrifying night that welcomed over 300 people, all of whom were granted full access to a truly unforgettable, Wi-Fi- powered experience. Additionally, during the event, over 500 people reportedly connected to the Buff Bay public Wi-Fi access points.
From early in the evening, the Buff Bay community showed up and showed out, families pitched chairs, laid out blankets, and gathered under the stars for an outdoor screening of “Bob Marley: One Love.”
Adding to the excitement, USF gave away tablets during the intermission as part of an engaging activity that had the crowd cheering and fully tuned in.
Sharing his thoughts on the event, USF CEO Charlton McFarlane, said, “The outpouring of support from Buff Bay was incredible. To see people live-streaming moments from the movie, posting real-time reactions, and sharing content online using the same USF-powered Wi-Fi that made the event possible, it speaks volumes”.
Children flocked to the virtual reality game zone, where racing simulations, kickboxing, and other interactive experiences kept excitement levels high well past the official 10:00 pm close. Even after the lights dimmed, lines were still forming, a testament to the zone’s massive popularity.
Meanwhile, the adult game zone turned into a battleground of friendly competition.
Once word spread about the possibility of a prize, the stations were jam-packed, buzzing with energy and cheers as players went head-to-head, showcasing just how powerful digital spaces can be for community bonding and fun.
The concession area was a non-stop hub of activity. Vendors worked around the clock as free drinks, popcorn, Maggi soup, and Bad Dawg sandwiches flowed freely for all 200 armband holders.
Adding a touch of exclusivity to the event, 20 VIP guests were hosted as part of a special curated experience.
From start to finish, the 20th Anniversary Wi-Fi Watch Party delivered far more than just entertainment; it was a living showcase of USF’s mission in action.
The landmark event forms part of a broader series of initiatives celebrating USF’s two decades of bridging the digital divide, through over 230 Community Access Points, hundreds of Wi-Fi hotspots, thousands trained in digital literacy, and growing tech hubs that are changing lives islandwide.
