Revenge porn lands two before the court

MONTEGO BAY, St James — A private video ended up on the Internet and now two people are facing criminal charges in what the judge called a deeply troubling case.

Orandy Williams and Daniela Lee appeared in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday charged with malicious communication after a nude video of a woman was shared online without her consent.

The issue started on March 12 at approximately 8:45 am when the complainant, while at work, received from a friend a Telegram message containing a link. She clicked it, only to be stunned by what appeared onscreen — video of her, completely naked. She told the court she remembered filming the video with her ex-boyfriend, Williams, but said she never gave him permission to post or share it anywhere.

The complainant later reported the matter to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC).

Upon his arrest Williams reportedly told police under caution, “Yes, mi know ’bout di video. A mi girlfriend Daniela send di video on Telegram, but mi a go tek di fall.”

The allegations are that police then brought in Lee and her response was just as direct.

“Yes, I posted the video on Telegram because she posted a half-naked picture of me on Instagram. Mi send di video from a random e-mail to my e-mail and posted it on Telegram,” she said.

Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton did not hold back.

“It always bothers me when I see offences like these,” she told the court.

Turning to Lee, she asked, “Would you want anyone to post something like that of you?”

Lee replied in a low voice, “No”.

The court also heard that three cellphones were seized and sent to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Communication Forensics and Cybercrime Division for analysis. In addition, the prosecution is awaiting one more statement from the investigating officer.

Though both accused were already on bail, the judge tightened the conditions, ordering them to report to a specific police station on specific days.

The matter is set for case management on July 23, and their bail extended until then.
