National Trials 2025: Megan Tapper takes 100m hurdles title in upset

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Olympic Games bronze medalist Megan Tapper created a big upset after she led from the gun to the tape to win the women’s 100m title on Sunday’s final day of the JAAA national championships at the National Stadium.

Tapper clocked a personal best 12.34 seconds (0.1m/s), sixth fastest in the world so far this year, to win the event.

After finishing fourth at the national trials and failing to make the team to the Olympic Games last year, Tapper smashed her previous lifetime best 12.44 seconds set in 2023.

National record holder and last year’s champion, Ackera Nugent was second in 12.41 seconds with Amoi Brown third with 12.67 seconds. All three will join world champion Danielle Williams on the team to the World Championships. Williams had a bye to the Tokyo championships by virtue of being the defending champion.

Tiana Marshall scored a big win in the Under-20 girls 100m hurdles, equaling her personal best 13.33 seconds (0.0m/s) to beat the World Under-20 leading Briana Campbell who ran 13.35 seconds after a slow start. Bryana Davidson of St Jago was third with 13.55 seconds.

St Jago High’s Malayia Duncan won the Under-18 girls title in 13.78 seconds (0.1m/s), beating Rebecca Nugent who ran 15.51 seconds for second.
