Charge Warmington, Campbell urges police
KINGSTON, Jamaica—General Secretary of the People’s National Party (PNP), Dayton Campbell, is calling on the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to charge Member of Parliament for St Catherine South West, Everald Warmington, for indecent language following remarks he made on a political platform in Westmoreland on Sunday.
Campbell, while speaking at a PNP meeting in Westmoreland Central on Sunday, noted that, similar to artistes who are charged for indecent language, Warmington should be charged for his comments.
“Artistes go onto to the stage and they use what they refer to as indecent language. Police charge them. I am calling on the JCF to charge Everald Warmington for his behaviour on the platform,” Campbell said.
” How them a gwaan like them a bull buck and duppy conqueror. Like a fi dem country like everybody else fi just fraid a them and they can do whatever they feel like. This country does not belong to the labourites. This is our country. All of us together.”
Speaking during a workers’ appreciation ceremony held in Savanna-la-Mar, Warmington told Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters to vote along party lines even if they disliked their local candidate. He encouraged voters to “close your eyes… and say ‘mi a vote fi Andrew Holness,’” adding that they should “put the X beside the… bell” , a reference to the JLP symbol, in a speech laced with expletives.
“You don’t like your candidate? Vote for Andrew Holness Labour Party,” he said at the event.
Warmington’s comments quickly went viral on social media, drawing heavy criticism from the public. Amid the mounting criticism, Warmington issued a formal apology and withdrew his remarks.
