Our Path To Love
Love officially sealed (Photo: Joel Photography)

Our Path To Love

Cupid’s arrow was definitely hovering when Shannon Black met Damion Sudlow! Eschew all thoughts of a bullseye! Consider it a slow burn.

“There was a calm about him — a tranquillity that sparked my curiosity and eventually won my heart,” shared Shannon with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).

No idle boast — the two wed on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at the lush Boone Hall Oasis.

Their journey to forever started in May 2023 with a chance encounter at her workplace.

“I was immediately struck by how quiet he was when we first met. His nice, handsome demeanour, combined with his reserved nature, truly appealed to me,” recalled Shannon. It was the start of a friendship that would endure even after she changed jobs and relocated. Undaunted, Damion kept in touch. Soon they started dating. What sealed the deal for her was how Damion attended to her son during a scary moment.

“My son’s accident at Calabar High solidified everything. Damion went straight to him, and seeing my son on his back, with Damion by his side, brought tears to my eyes — that was the moment I knew he was meant for me,” Shannon shared.

By June, he popped the question. “He dropped to both knees and asked me to marry him right there at home, surrounded by the children. I was so emotional I could barely speak, but of course, I said yes! The proposal marked a true family merger, combining his two children and my three,” Shannon gushed.

Their wedding day was a simple affair. Chupsi Cushion Interior Decor handled styling duties. Shannon’s strapless mermaid gown was the perfect complement to her bridegroom’s classic white and black tuxedo.

Inclement weather notwithstanding Shannon refused to be daunted. Indeed, her joy radiated throughout as she prepared for the most important moment in her life. Escorted by her son Mikael Gosling, she walked up the aisle to I Found Love by BeBe and CeCe Winans, where she exchanged vows with Damion, guided by officiant Horace Aiken and surrounded by close friends and family.

Celebrations continued at Boone Hall Oasis where the staff also handled the catering. Toasts and a spirited newly-wed game was followed by the cutting of a traditional heavy fruitcake by Yvonne Brown. Moving in perfect unison to the Carpenters’ (They Long To Be) Close To You for their first dance as Mr & Mrs, the couple marked a beautiful beginning to their new life together.

The newly-weds enjoyed their honeymoon at Moon San Villa in Portland.
