Glass cold — Beyond 5 Beverages redefines the taste of Jamaican coffee

Born from a love for premium coffee and a vision to elevate local products to the global stage, Beyond 5 Beverages is quickly making a name for itself as it positions to become a game-changer in the specialty beverage market — redefining how Jamaicans experience the world-famous Blue Mountain Coffee, one sip at a time.

Officially launched in March 2024 following two years of meticulous product development, the premium cold coffee company has been steadily brewing success. With its handcrafted iced beverages made from 100 per cent Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, richly infused with nostalgic and tropical flavours, Beyond 5 has already carved out a strong presence in the local market. Its bold innovation and refined taste continue to resonate with customers — and the momentum shows no signs of slowing.

The company’s beverage line showcasing uniquely blended Jamaican flavour combinations that never existed in the market carries standout offerings comprising coffee chocolate vanilla, coffee carrot vanilla, and coffee carrot ginger — all sold in sleek 300ml glass bottles, showcasing innovative and adventurous flavour experimentation.

Founder and CEO Damain Drummond, who described himself as a coffee aficionado, said the business was born out of both personal passion and market insight.

“I recognised that there was a need and demand for bottled premium iced coffee beverages locally as well as globally. There was also a realisation that these products, especially those made using the Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, were not readily available in the market nor were there any similar products available at the time, and as such this led to the creation of a niche market product,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Currently manufactured using facilities provided by the Scientific Research Council (SRC), Beyond 5 targets coffee drinkers aged 19 to 65, particularly young professionals, university students, and specialty coffee lovers who value quality, convenience, and sustainability.

With key competitive advantages — including distinct flavour profiles, direct-to-consumer engagement, and strategic partnerships to expand reach — Drummond emphasises that the goal is not just to build a brand, but to capture and bottle the true essence of Jamaican coffee culture.

“We have a focus on meeting the preferences and desires of coffee drinkers who are seeking refreshing premium Blue Mountain Coffee that is cold, crisp, and invigorating,” he stated.

Proud of the company’s rapid growth to date, he said Beyond 5 Beverages, after a successful debut at the Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Festival back in 2024, has since moved to achieve island-wide recognition within just 12 months. Among its growing list of accomplishments is a nomination for Best New Local Product/Beverage at the 2025 Jamaica Observer Food Awards and also its winning of the Micro Business Pitch Competition (Westmoreland) in June. The start-up has also made a strong impression at national trade shows such as Expo Jamaica. The brand, furthering its public awareness efforts, has likewise, in recent times, been featured by multiple media outlets.

Despite its commendable achievements, Drummond said the company continues to navigate several challenges tied to limited access to funding, staff training and development, as well as the need to modernise manufacturing processes. However, profitability has allowed the company to reinvest earnings into scaling operations and preparing for the export market.

“We’re now in the process of transitioning to a larger manufacturing space to meet increasing demand and prepare for regional and international markets,” Drummond said. “The goals for Beyond 5 Beverages include spreading the cheer of Jamaica globally through our Blue Mountain Coffee iced beverages, launching innovative new products, and strengthening our brand awareness.”

As part of its future ambitions, Beyond 5 Beverages is now preparing to launch new product lines, including dairy-free and alcohol-infused iced coffee options, as well as frozen coffee novelties such as ice cream. These additions are expected to broaden appeal and drive growth in both local and global markets.

“To fully unlock this vision, we have already recognised the need to expand our production capacity and move from being a micro or small operation to a medium-size enterprise,” Drummond added.
