TWO alumni of Northern Caribbean University (NCU) have been elected and reappointed to top leadership positions in the Seventh-day Adventist World Church.

The two — Pastor Leonard A Johnson and Elder Paul H Douglas — were appointed during Seventh-day Adventist World Church 62nd General Conference Session now under way in St Louis, Missouri, in the United States.

On Sunday Johnson was elected to serve as general vice-president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, while Douglas was reappointed to serve as executive treasurer.

Johnson’s election came as delegates selected seven vice-presidents who will help implement mission-focused priorities for the global church over the next five years. He has served as executive secretary of the Inter-American Division (IAD) since 2018.

Prior to that Johnson was president of the Atlantic Caribbean Union, headquartered in Nassau, The Bahamas. While serving as union president, he also held the role of associate ministerial director for the IAD.

Reacting to the news NCU President Dr Lincoln Edwards congratulated the two for their elevated and continued appointment to leadership within the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church.

According to Edwards, Johnson’s “faithfulness, wisdom, and dedication to the mission of the church continue to inspire and uplift communities far and wide”.

“We also affirm and congratulate Elder Paul H Douglas on his reappointment as executive treasurer of the General Conference, one of the three top leadership roles in our global church. His commitment to stewardship, transparency, and excellence has strengthened the financial integrity of our denomination and remains a model for Christian leadership in service. During our commencement ceremony in August 2024, it was our pleasure to confer Elder Douglas with the honorary Doctor of Commerce degree,” said Edwards.

“As a Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher learning, NCU is deeply honoured to have played a part in the educational journey of these outstanding servants of God. They are both graduates of West Indies College [now NCU]. Their appointments are not only a reflection of their personal calling and commitment, but also a powerful testament to the values the university upholds — academic excellence, spiritual integrity, and service to humanity.

“We pray that the Lord will anoint them afresh with wisdom, grace, and strength as they carry forward the sacred work of guiding God’s people and advancing the mission of the church around the world,” added Edwards.
