GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Wednesday confirmed that one of its officers, Captain Dwight Bonus, had been injured following a single-engine aircraft crash in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands on Tuesday that left one person dead.

“Our thoughts remain with the individuals involved in the crash and their loved ones,” said Arlington Musgrove, the minister with responsibility for the Airport Authority, in a statement.

The GDF said that Captain Bonus sustained injuries and was subsequently medically evacuated.

“He has since been medically evacuated and is currently receiving treatment overseas. His condition is reported to be stable.”

“Our thoughts are with Captain Bonus and his family during this time, and we extend our support for his full recovery,” the GDF said, noting that the pilot was on personal leave at the time of the incident.

Media reports said that the Cessna 210 took off from North Perry Airport in Broward County at around 11:40 am (local time) on Tuesday and was scheduled to arrive at Howard Hamilton International Airport in the Turks and Caicos Islands, a few hours later.

The Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority (TCIAA) confirmed the plane crashed while it was on approach to the international airport and that emergency services quickly responded to the incident.

Federal Aviation Administration records show the owner of the aircraft was a business, Mob Aviation USA LLC, out of Kissimmee, Florida.
