Kaya, a 1978 album by Bob Marley and the Wailers, is to date the legendary act’s highest-charting album in the United Kingdom, having peaked at #4 on the UK Albums chart 47 years ago.

On Friday, Kaya was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry, for sales and streaming equivalent exceeding 300,000 units.

Kaya consists of tracks recorded alongside those released on the Exodus album and it was produced by the band.

The album’s release coincided with the One Love Peace Concert, heralding Marley’s triumphant return to Jamaica from exile in London. Three of the songs are new versions of tracks from the 1971 album Soul Revolution Part II.

Among the popular songs from Kaya are Is This Love, Sun is Shining, Satisfy My Soul, Time Will Tell and Easy Skanking.

Junior Marvin, Tyrone ‘Organ D’ Downie, Aston ‘Family Man’ Barrett, Winston Grennan, Alvin ‘Seeco’ Patterson, Vincent Gordon and Glen Dacosta, are among the musicians who played on the album.

Kaya also made it to #5 in Australia, #6 in Norway and New Zealand, #14 in Sweden and #50 on both the Billboard 200 and R&B Albums charts.

The album was previously certified platinum in Australia, 2x platinum in France, and gold in the United States and Germany.
