Sewage pours from ceiling at US airport
ATLANTA, United States — Travellers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport were left in shock on Monday when sewage began pouring from the ceiling of the airport before it partially collapsed, an incident that was captured on video.
According to an 11Alive news report, Jamaal Carlos Jr, a passenger bound for Dallas, was waiting in the terminal near Gate T11 when he saw water start to pour from the ceiling.
“As we’re waiting, we see water just pouring from the ceiling. It had been pouring consistently for maybe 10-15 seconds…And it just progressively got worse. The ceiling fell through and it stinks really bad,” Carlos Jr said.
He recalled seeing officials cordon off the area, but said it took about five to 10 minutes for crews to respond to clean up the spill.
Airport authorities have since confirmed they are investigating the cause of the leak.
“The affected area has been contained, and remediation crews are actively working to clean and sanitise the space…The Lower North Checkpoint is temporarily closed. Customer service representatives are on-site to assist and reroute passengers around the impacted area to ensure minimal disruption. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are also present as a precaution. There is no impact to overall Airport operations,” the airport said in a statement, according to the report.
