WATCH: Truck crash reduces Spur Tree Hill to single lane traffic
MANCHESTER, Jamaica— The driver of a truck narrowly escaped serious injuries after the heavy-duty unit he was operating overturned on Spur Tree Hill in Manchester on Friday.
Police said about 4:00 pm the driver lost control of the unit while going downhill resulting in the cab of the truck being separated from the back which was said to be filled with animal feed. The back of the unit overturned on the roadway.
Passersby quickly looted the unit.
The road has since been reduced to single lane traffic with access to the eastbound lane (going uphill).
The accident-prone Spur Tree main road links Mandeville and its environs to St Elizabeth and points west.
Heavily laden, slow-moving trucks often hinder traffic on the steep, difficult hill, and there have been a number of fatal crashes involving trucks over the years.
