Mamma Mia leads charge in Arthur Jones Memorial Cup
Mamma Mia, the talented five-year-old chestnut mare trained by Jason DaCosta, looks well-poised for a thrilling performance in this afternoon’s $1.25-million Arthur Jones Memorial Cup at Caymanas Park.
Despite a disappointing sixth-place finish behind stablemates Funcaandun and Desert of Malibu over one mile (1,600m) on July 26, Mamma Mia’s speed and pace make her a strong contender in this Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over six furlongs (1,200m).
As she steps down in class for this race, Mamma Mia is expected to excel, and with Robert Halledeen aboard, she’s got a winning combination. Halledeen previously rode Mamma Mia to a length and quarter victory over seven furlongs (1,400m) on February 25, and with her timely preparation, she’s expected to make a statement.
