Jamaicans Wilson and Campbell advance in Pan-Am 100m
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Both Jamaican representatives, Oneka Wilson and Briana Campbell, advanced to Wednesday’s final of the 100 metre hurdles after the semi-finals on Tuesday’s morning session of the Junior Pan-American Games in Asuncion, Paraguay.
Wilson ran a wind-aided 13.27 seconds (2.3m/s) to win her heat, beating Brazil’s Lays Silva’s 13.43 seconds and Argentina’s Helen Bernard’s 13.65 seconds.
Campbell was second in her semi-final, running 13.37 seconds (2.0m/s), behind Cuba’s Joycelyn Echazabal, who ran a games record 12.95 seconds, while Maya Rollins of Barbados was third with 13.42 seconds.
Jamaica will have three representatives in the men’s and women’s 100m in Tuesday’s afternoon session; Jehlani Gordon is in the men’s 100m and Alana Reid and Serena Cole are set to line up in the women’s race.
Additionally, on Tuesday, Kishay Rowe will contest the women’s 800m final, Rickoy Hunter and Jaheim Watson are down for the men’s long jump and Shaiquan Dunn and Christopher Young will take part in the men’s shot put final.
