SIS, let’s have some real talk.

After experiencing heartbreak, going through a divorce, and learning to love again, I’ve come to understand something powerful: when a man truly loves you, you won’t have to guess. Love is more than sweet words and romantic gestures, it’s consistent, intentional, and backed by action.

As women, especially those of us who have been through betrayal or disappointment, it’s easy to second-guess love. We want reassurance, confirmation that we’re not wasting our time, and that his intentions are pure. And guess what? That’s okay. You should want clarity. You deserve to know when love is real.

So how can you tell if his love is the real deal? Here are five unmistakable ways a man will show you he truly loves you:

1) He makes you a priority, not an option

A man in love will make time for you — no excuses. He won’t disappear for days and pop up like nothing happened. He won’t leave you hanging or wondering where you stand. He shows up, checks in, and makes you feel seen.

Love doesn’t put you on the back burner. When a man is serious about you, he carves out time — even on his busiest days — because your presence matters to him. And when plans change, he communicates. That’s emotional maturity, and that’s love in action.

2) He supports your dreams and purpose

A man who loves you wants to see you thrive, not just as his woman, but as a whole person. He celebrates your gifts, encourages your goals, and speaks life into your vision. He doesn’t compete with your purpose; he complements it.

Whether you’re going back to school, starting a business, or walking into ministry, he stands with you, not behind you or in front of you, but beside you. Real love builds, not belittles.

3) He protects you spiritually, emotionally, and physically

Love is protective, not possessive. A man who loves you will cover you in prayer, speak peace over your life, and defend your heart from harm. He won’t expose you to unnecessary pain — he’ll shield you from it.

This kind of man isn’t just worried about who’s checking you out on Instagram. He’s concerned about your mental wellness, your spiritual walk, and your emotional safety. He’s your safe place, not your storm.

4) He respects your boundaries

Let’s be clear: love without respect isn’t love, it’s manipulation. A man who truly loves you doesn’t pressure you to cross lines you’re uncomfortable with. He honours your values, even if they don’t match his own.

Whether it’s your spiritual convictions, your decision to wait before intimacy, or your need for personal space, he respects it. Why? Because he respects you. Real love doesn’t rush; it reveres.

5) He talks about the future — And includes you in it

A man who sees you in his future won’t keep you in the dark. He’ll talk about plans — marriage, family, finances, faith — and you’ll hear “we” more than “me”.

He includes you in decisions, seeks your opinion, and makes you feel secure about where the relationship is going. When a man is ready to love with intention, he moves with clarity. No more confusion, no more mixed signals.

Love is not a mystery to be solved, it’s a truth that reveals itself over time. When a man truly loves you, he’ll show you consistently. You won’t feel anxious. You won’t have to beg. You won’t have to shrink yourself just to be chosen.

I’ve walked the painful road of uncertainty. But I’ve also walked into the joy of a love that honours God, honours me, and gives me peace. And I want that for you, too.

So don’t settle for half-hearted love. You were created to be loved fully, deeply, and faithfully.
