KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Dana Morris Dixon says the party, under Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ direction, executed a clean political campaign in the run-up to their victory in the General Elections on Wednesday.

“Third terms are really, really hard, and this campaign was hard, but the prime minister did set the groundwork, and that’s why I am even more proud to be a part of this because he said this is going to be a clean campaign,” she said during a press briefing on Thursday, a day after the election.

Noting that Holness had instructed them to campaign based on their achievements, she explained, “There are some people who would say you can’t really campaign based on your achievements and that positive campaigns don’t work, you have to go negative, and our prime minister said no. [He] said we are having a clean campaign, we are being positive, we are choosing Jamaica, we are talking about the future that we want to see, and that can inspire people.”

Reflecting on speaking to constituents along the campaign trail, Morris Dixon expressed pride at the way the JLP was transforming lives.

“I came into this arena because the prime minister asked and I really did like the vision he laid out for the country…It was an opportunity to serve the country and be a part of creating a Jamaica I always thought was possible and I finally found articulated by Dr Holness,” Morris Dixon said.
