All three Jamaican women are through to the semi-finals of the 100m after Saturday’s first round at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

National champion Tina Clayton, Shericka Jackson and five-time gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will all line up in the semi-finals set to be run 6:20am Jamaica time on Sunday.

Clayton ran 11.01 seconds (-0.4m/s) to win her heat, beating Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith who was second in 11.07 seconds and Poland’s Ewa Swoboda, third in 11.18 seconds.

Jackson was caught on the line by defending champion Sha’Carri
Richardson of the USA and was second in 11.03 seconds (-0.8m/s). The American won with a season’s best 11.03 seconds with Australia’s Torrie Lewis running a national record 11.08 seconds for third.

Fraser-Pryce, in her ninth and final World Championships, ran a well measured race for second in her heat, clocking 11.09 seconds (-0.4m/s), behind Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith of the Ivory Coast, 11.05 seconds. Liranyi Alonso of the Dominican Republic was third in 11.26 seconds.

Olympic champion Julien Alfred of St Lucia led all qualifiers with 10.93 seconds while Great Britain’s Daryll Neita of Great Britain was also under 11.00 seconds with a season’ s best 10.94 seconds.
