KINGSTON, Jamaica – Councillor for the Barbican Division, Joy Cottrell, is urging the National Water Commission (NWC) to properly repair a damaged pipeline in the Norbrook community, which she says is preventing road restoration efforts by the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) following heavy rains over the weekend.

“Most of the communities, you see where NWC [National Water Commission] come and dig up the place, they don’t do it properly, and it create a problem. So this is what, you know, and then now the rain come yesterday, everything just is a mess. So, I’m asking the NWC to come and, you know, fix the pipeline properly that the KSAMC [Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation] can do their work and get it resolved,” she urged.

According to the councillor, the recent damage was made worse by continuous leakages that were not properly addressed by the NWC.

“This was caused by the NWC not fixing it properly. You know, with the continuous leakage, they come and they just do a little thing and they leave it and because of that now, the volume of rain that come now finish wash it away because it was leaking. So every time it leaks, they come and they fix and they patch. But we need to look at it properly and get what is underneath there that is creating the problem dealt with as soon as possible,” she added.
