Jamaican-born beauty mogul launches PIMBY store in Georgia
Hundreds of delighted customers flocked to the Mall of Georgia in Buford, Georgia to support Jamaican-born beauty mogul Yolondo Salmon Thomas as she officially opened the 10,000-square-foot flagship store of her brand Playing in Makeup by Yolondo (PIMBY).
The beauty mogul was elated at the enthusiastic response to the launch.
“The turnout was amazing. I love people so it was great to share the moment with them. They were here for hours checking out the products and it was great to see the joy on their faces. A lot of people are not happy with themselves and to know that the right eyeshadow or concealer can help to make them feel good about themselves, that’s a great bonus for me,” she said.
Thomas hosted her grand store opening on September 27 with a ceremony which was attended by business and political leaders from Atlanta and surrounding areas, as well as members of the Jamaican diaspora and the Consulate of Jamaica.
She is one of the only independent black-owned flagship brands that deals exclusively with her own branded makeup, including the most viral concealer on the market. The PIMBY brand boasts over 100 different products.
“After the launch, the buzz has been steady. On Monday, which is traditionally a slow day for the mall, we had dozens of customers coming back to get that personal experience, and they were here until well after five, so we know that people are loving the brand,” Thomas said.
Known for building a multimillion-dollar cosmetics line with customers in more than 150 countries, Thomas is now giving beauty lovers a chance to experience her products in person.
She has gained a growing customer base with her make-up tutorials online via her Facebook page with 465,000 followers, her TikTok page which has over 877,000 followers and 39.1 million likes, as well as her Instagram page with over 422,000 followers.
The launch marks a powerful moment of Jamaican entrepreneurship influencing the global beauty scene.
