Suriname police arrest one in fatal stabbing of 1-y-o
PARAMARIBO, Suriname (CMC) — Suriname police have arrested one person in relation to the fatal stabbing of a one-year-old child during a domestic dispute on Thursday night.
Police in the South American country said that they went to the scene at Cocobiacoweg on the outskirts of the capital, Paramaribo, after a report had been made that a man was assaulting his wife and children, armed with a knife.
They said that upon arrival, officers and paramedics encountered a harrowing scene, where the baby had suffered stab wounds and died despite prompt medical attention.
The police said that the suspect, a cousin of the child’s father, was arrested at the scene and that the mother and others involved were treated by emergency services.
Lawmen say they are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of the child and have included several agencies, including the Child Protection Services and Victim Support.
