Chaka Demus returns with festive new single

Few names in reggae and dancehall carry as much recall as Chaka Demus.

For more than three decades, his voice and style have defined an era of Jamaican music that reached every corner of the globe.

Now Chaka Demus is stepping into a new chapter, bringing the warmth of reggae to the holiday season with his latest release, Christmas Time.

The track blends the joy of the holiday season with the unmistakable swing of Jamaican rhythm, delivering a folksy yet modern anthem perfect for family gatherings, community celebrations, and global holiday playlists.

Rising from Kingston’s vibrant sound system culture, Chaka Demus (born John Taylor) quickly gained recognition as a deejay with commanding stage presence and a gift for infectious rhythms. He began making his mark on Roots Majestic and King Jammy’s sets. From selector to artiste, Chaka Demus has cemented his name in Jamaican music, starting with hits like Everybody Loves Chaka to popular street tunes like Young Gal Business and Gal Wine, one of his most requested live tunes up to this day.

His breakout single Original Kuff also became one of the defining tracks of the digital dancehall era earning him islandwide acclaim and international attention.

Among the top producers with which he has worked is Bobby Digital and Winston Riley. By the dawn of the 1990s he had already secured his place as one of Jamaica’s most versatile musicians. His journey to historic heights continued in the 1990s when he partnered with singer Pliers, creating one of reggae’s most successful duos.

Together, Chaka Demus & Pliers became household names, breaking records and barriers with hits like Murder She Wrote, Tease Me, and their chart-topping rendition of Twist and Shout. They made history as the first Jamaican act to score five-consecutive UK Top 20 singles, opening doors for dancehall and reggae to flourishing mainstream pop markets. Their music, brimming with feel-good vibes and Caribbean soul, remains a fixture on global playlists, with Murder She Wrote still one of the most sampled and celebrated reggae tracks worldwide.

Beyond the duo’s success, Chaka Demus has continued to record and perform, maintaining his reputation as an innovator and cultural ambassador for Jamaican music.

Earlier this year he released the single Mi Love You, signalling a renewed creative spark and reminding fans of his enduring artistry.

Christmas Time will be available worldwide on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and Audiomack.

With his unmistakable voice, timeless charisma, and global legacy, Chaka Demus proves once again that great artistry never fades.
