Boyd and Aidonia added to Bell/Zaide football festival

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former national player Walter Boyd and entertainer Aidonia have confirmed their participation in the 40th staging of the Bell/Zaide Memorial Football Festival set for Heroes Day on Monday, October 20 at Winchester Park.

Organiser Clive ‘Busy’ Campbell said he was approached by both Boyd and Aidonia at the Reggae Boyz match against Bermuda, and they both asked to be a part of the event, which raises funds for various charities.

“Based on the cost of the venue and security, this might be the last time, and I will approach KSAFA [Kingston And St Andrew Football Association] to keep these two former national coaches’ and players’ names alive,” said Campbell.

“I will continue to find a way to help basic schools because in life, everybody needs help sometimes,” Campbell added.

The football festival is in honour of Jackie Bell and Dennis Ziadie, two former Jamaican national football players who passed away in 1986 while attending the World Cup in Mexico.

This year’s honourees will be Douglas Bell, Andrew Price, Neville Granville, Karl Tyrell, and Ronald Watson.

Four teams will be participating in the festival: Masters and Celebrities, Christian Ambassadors, St George’s Old Boys and Referees XI.

Laa Lee, Jahshii and Nesbeth will represent for the Masters and Celebrities team, along with Boyd and Aidonia; and Karl Tyrell, Oshane Nation, Carvel Banton, Alexi Perry and Jassett Kerr will represent for the referees.
