KINGSTON, Jamaica — WIP Energy, a subsidiary of West Indies Petroleum Limited (WIP), has announced its sponsorship of the 41st Canoe Tournament, which will be held from October 21 to 25, 2025, as part of the 62nd Port Antonio International Marlin Fishing Tournament.

As a main sponsor, WIP Energy will provide fuel for approximately 60 vessels participating in the canoe competition, underscoring the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting Jamaica’s fishing heritage and tourism development in Portland.

“Beyond the friendly rivalry, these tournaments strengthen communities, celebrate our maritime traditions, and create opportunities for local fisherfolk,” said Wayne Fraser, general manager at WIP Energy. “Supporting events like this also aligns with our mission to power the livelihoods of Jamaicans across the island.”

The canoe tournament is Jamaica’s longest-running local fishing competition, attracting around 180 fisherfolk from six parishes – St Thomas, Portland, St Mary, St Ann, St James, and Trelawny.

The event not only highlights traditional fishing practices but also supports fishing communities, with participants using the tournament to boost their earnings and raise the profile of their fishing enterprises.

Fraser noted that many of the participants are indirect customers of WIP Energy.

The canoe tournament begins on Tuesday, with fishing starting at 7:00 am at ‘Di Ole Marina’ in Port Antonio.
