A resident of Wakefield in Trelawny is calling on the government to assist in providing building material to members of the community and other areas of the parish where he said many homeowners lost their properties during the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

Courtney ‘Macky British’ McIntosh said residents have been getting financial relief from members of the diaspora, as well as contributions from their Member of Parliament Tova Hamilton and businessman Romeich Major. However, more needs to be done, he said.

“We have called upon all agencies, but, most of our help are from people in the diaspora who have helped financially with getting food packages together. Also, the councillor — Mr Jonathan Bartley — and the MP Miss Tova Hamilton have been very hands-on in trying get the road clear using power-saw and heavy equipment,” McIntosh told Observer Online.

Residents of Wakefield in Trelawny are looking to pick up the pieces after the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

He added that other heavily affected areas in the parish include Bounty Hall, Friendship, Bunkers Hill, Dromilly, and Deeside.

McIntosh further said that residents are facing a dire situation with flattened homes and consistent rainfall.

“I would implore the government to be a little more hasty in providing some plywood and zinc so that people can start by getting even one room finished, even if it’s to store their clothes or furniture instead of of leaving it in the rain,” he continued.
