Bunny Shaw nominated for Marta Award for best goal of 2024

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Reggae Girlz skipper Khadija “Bunny” Shaw is one of 11 persons nominated for the Marta Award for her outstanding goal for Manchester City against Hammarby on November 21, 2024, in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Shaw scored two that day as City beat Swedish club Hammar by 2-1 after it appeared she was hit by an object during the game, forcing UEFA to open an investigation.

Shaw collected a pass just outside the area and turned two defenders before unleashing a powerful shot into the roof of the net.

The FIFA Marta Award is an award established in 2024 to be presented to the female player judged to have scored the most aesthetically significant, or “most beautiful”, goal of the calendar year. The Marta Award is announced yearly and is considered by voting.

The award is named in honour of Brazilian legend Marta, widely considered the best female player of all time. The forward represented her country for over two decades from 2002 until 2024. She was herself nominated for the inaugural award.

The 28-year-old Shaw is Jamaica’s leading goal scorer of all time for both male and female, with 57 goals, and is Manchester City’s all-time top scorer with 67 goals.
