PORTLAND, Jamaica — In the wake of Hurricane Melissa’s devastating impact, Great Huts Eco Resort is channeling its tranquil cliffside setting into a space of renewal and community restoration.

Managing Director Vivene Wallace and community beach mat Pilates leader Iyla Cousins have announced the launch of Resilient Rhythms, a biweekly wellness experience beginning Saturday, November 22, 2025, and continuing through January 31, 2026.

The initiative was originally envisioned before the hurricane as part of a new Portland wellness programme. However, the organisers said ‘hurricane healing’ now carries deeper meaning. The initiative offers guided mat pilates sessions with a restorative flow closing with group guided journaling—designed to calm the nervous system, rebuild strength and balance, and rekindle the human connection that sustains communities through hardship.

“Pilates empowers the body and refocuses the mind,” says Iyla Cousins. “These sessions serve as a reminder that through movement and community we can rebuild — inside and out.”

Classes will take place within the community-driven environs of Great Huts Eco Resort, overlooking the sea in Boston Bay, Portland.

The organisers said each session is offered at a local resident rate of J$3,000 and visitor rate of J$4,500 per session. Bundle rates are also available, while no experience necessary, they added.

Donation Incentive
Participants are encouraged to bring donation items that will support communities most affected, particularly in the western regions of Jamaica and St Ann. Those who contribute may receive 10 per cent off class rates and 20 per cent off accommodation, the organisers said.
