Mighty Gully, Prince Amaan shine in $1.25-m Racehorse Aftercare Trophy
MIGHTY Gully and Prince Amaan produced eye-catching performances to win their respective sections of the $1.25-million Racehorse Aftercare Trophy over five furlongs (1,000m) straight at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Mighty Gully, trained Robert Pearson and ridden by Dick Cardenas, romped to an easy nine-length win in Division One of the Overnight Allowance for three-year-olds and upward. He crossed the line in 58.3 seconds (splits 23.4/46.2), beating Bulletproofcoffee (Demar Williams) and Norblar (Shane Richardson). Cardenas secured his second winner of the day after earlier guiding Smart Trick to victory in the second race for trainer Anthony Nunes.
Prince Amaan, trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Robert Halledeen, edged out a tight finish in Division Two, holding on by a short head over the fast-finishing Champion Bubbler (Tajay Suckoo).
Atlantic Convoy (Cardenas) took third. The winning time was 58.3 seconds (splits 23.2/46.1).
It marked the second winner of the day for DaCosta and Halledeen, who earlier teamed up with
Starraura to win the opening race on the 10-race card.
Trainer Anthony Nunes and jockey Raddesh Roman also had two winners.
In addition to Smart Trick, Nunes saddled Tigeramedat (Roman) in the fourth race. Roman had ridden
Tigray Express for trainer Phillip Elliott the previous race for his two winners.
Racing is scheduled to continue with a 10-race card on Sunday, starting at 11:30 am.
