2025/26 NFL season: Week 14, colossal divisional matchups
Week 13 of the 2025/26 National Football League (NFL) regular season had everyone gasping for air, as many of the front-runners found it hard to digest what their opponents cooked up. Firstly, all three Thanksgiving Day games last Thursday ended in upsets: The Green Bay Packers dispatched the Detroit Lions 31-24, the Dallas Cowboys sent the Kansas City Chiefs packing, 31-28, and the Cincinnati Bengals defended their turf, beating the Baltimore Ravens 32-14.
As for the ‘Black Friday’ game, that too proved ominous for the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles, who fell victim, 24-15, to the visiting Chicago Bears, while the Houston Texans travelled to meet the high-riding Indianapolis Colts and took them down a notch, following a 20-16 win. Then, to top it off, the Carolina Panthers, who failed miserably six days previously against the San Francisco 49ers, delivered arguably the biggest upset of the season, defeating the Los Angeles Rams, 31–28, last Sunday as JustBet 10-point underdogs.
That said, a few of the JustBet favourites came through as promised, including the Seattle Seahawks, who blanked the Minnesota Vikings 26-0, much to the satisfaction of quarterback (QB) Sam Darnold, who was released by Minnesota at the end of last season after a career-defining year, being named to his first Pro-Bowl (4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns) in his lone season with the team. Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Chargers repelled the Las Vegas Raiders 31-14, the Denver Broncos visited the Washington Commanders and held off a late charge to win 27-26, for their ninth-straight victory, and the New England Patriots handled the New York Giants at home, 33-15, for their 10th-straight win before their bye this week.
Of course, the Week 13 results created plenty of shuffling in the standings and shook the play-off expectations in almost every division. The NFL is at its best when outcomes aren’t predictable, parity is displayed as often as possible, and dynasties are disturbed. With that in mind, Week 14 is expected to make no apology in that regard, as the colossal divisional matchups offer some of the best pairings one could hope for, with just five weeks left in the regular season.
Jacksonville Jaguars (8-4) vs Indianapolis Colts (8-4): This will be a battle for positioning in the American Football Conference (AFC) South Division race on Sunday, with both teams tied for the best record in the division, though the Houston Texans are just behind at 7-5. The Jaguars will be defending a 10-year-long streak as the Colts haven’t won a game at EverBank Stadium since 2014, and momentum is on the side of the home team as the Colts have lost back-to-back games coming in, while the Jaguars are on a three-game win streak, including 4-1 in their last five games.
Jacksonville QB Trevor Lawrence is coming off his best game of the season (16-of-27, 229 yards, two touchdowns) and has thrown two touchdown passes or more each of the past two weeks, while his counterpart has thrown one fewer touchdown, 103 fewer yards, and completed passes at a slightly lower rate. That said, Jacksonville enters the weekend as JustBet home underdogs, albeit just slightly, and while it hasn’t been an astonishing season for them, they have defeated the San Francisco 49ers, Chiefs, and Los Angeles Chargers, which should be enough to scare Indianapolis and set the stage for a potentially mild upset.
Baltimore Ravens (6-6) vs Pittsburgh Steelers (6-6): These two AFC North rivals meet in a very meaningful late-season divisional game, where play-off positioning and momentum are critical. However, they arrive with contrasting trajectories, as Baltimore put together a five-game win streak, after a 1-5 start, before their humbling Thanksgiving setback, while Pittsburgh had a good early season run, but has slumped, dropping three-of-four, entering this matchup. Turnovers and inconsistency have defined many of their defeats, including last week; Baltimore’s turnover-fest against Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh’s second-half meltdown versus Buffalo.
M&T Bank Stadium is not the easiest place to play late in the season and JustBet offers the Ravens as seven-point favourites to win. The bookmakers should have it right, but good production is needed from running back Derrick Henry and QB Lamar Jackson for this to happen. The Steelers gave up 287 and 249 rushing yards in the last two weeks, so Henry should get his, but Jackson has gone three straight games without a rushing or passing touchdown and has been under 60 per cent in completions for four straight games for the first time in his NFL career. It is expected that Jackson’s concerns will show a turnaround this weekend, but it is left to be seen.
Green Bay Packers (8-3-1) vs Chicago Bears (9-3): This will be the latest first meeting between these National Football Conference (NFC) North Division rivals since 1998 (they will meet again in Week 16) and the surging Bears enter this weekend as seven-point underdogs to their hosts, as their five-game win streak has failed to convince the bookmakers that history will not be a factor. QB Jordan Love and the Packers won their third straight game last week, prevailing in Detroit, but the history of this divisional matchup is more convincing than current form.
These franchises have met 210 times (regular season and postseason), which is the most in NFL history, and Green Bay’s 107 regular season wins over Chicago are the team’s most over any single opponent. Green Bay has won 14 of the last 17 meetings against Chicago at Lambeau Field, including eight of the last nine December games, and Head Coach Matt LaFleur is 11-1 against Chicago since assuming the position prior to the 2019 season. Sumall these factors and, despite the spectacular season QB Caleb Williams is having, it’s hard to pick against the favourite in this matchup, and the logical outcome is Chicago’s fourth loss of the season, but it should be close.
A great many of the season’s front-runners had a blip on the screen in Week 13 and they can ill afford to have that continue if they have postseason ambitions. Every matchup has play-off implications and every result from here on in will impact the standings. This is where the contenders separate themselves from the pretenders and the true test begins.
