Industrial Disputes Tribunal launches public webpage with searchable case awards
KINGSTON, Jamaica — As part of activities to mark its 50th anniversary, the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT) on Thursday launched its official webpage, giving the public, social partners and the legal fraternity easy access to the tribunal’s awards and related resources.
During a live demonstration to Minister of Labour and Social Security Pearnel Charles Jr, the IDT team showcased features that they say strengthen transparency, accessibility and understanding of the tribunal’s role.
“As we mark 50 years of the IDT, this webpage is a critical step for transparency and, more importantly, access. Anyone can log on, see the awards and understand the processes so workplace decisions are aligned with the law and better industrial relations,” said Charles Jr.
“The work of the IDT is now more in the public domain than it was before,” added IDT Chairman Errol Miller, noting that practitioners, students and workplace leaders will benefit from easier access to decisions and guidance on industrial relations.
The webpage provides a structured library of IDT awards, with recent decisions already live and earlier matters to be uploaded on a rolling basis. Users can browse by year and search by party name or topic, making it easier to study outcomes and understand the principles that guide the tribunal’s work.
The site also includes a growing set of landmark rulings that reviewed or clarified IDT awards, providing legal context for how the tribunal’s mandate operates within Jamaica’s statutory framework.
While the IDT is not a court, its mandate is to determine what is fair and just in all the circumstances and to support strong labour-management relations.
Publishing awards and related rulings in one place allows stakeholders to learn from precedent, encourages more predictable and respectful workplace practices, and supports earlier, evidence-based resolution of disputes.
Interested parties can visit the IDT webpage on the Ministry of Labour and Social Security’s official website at https://www.mlss.gov.jm/?community=industrial-disputes-tribunal-idt-case-files to access landmark IDT rulings and awards. Cases are organised by calendar-year quarters.
