Ocho Rios advance to Ben Francis Cup quarter-finals
ST ANN, Jamaica — Ocho Rios High became the second team to qualify for the quarter-finals of the ISSA Ben Francis Cup on Friday after clipping Old Harbour High 1-0 in their first round game played at Drax Hall in St Ann.
Kaneil Brown scored late in the close contest to send Ocho Rios High through to the quarter-finals set to be played on Tuesday, December 16.
A day earlier, Manchester High had booked their place after crushing William Knibb Memorial 5-0 at Manchester High and they join Mannings’ School and Garvey Maceo who had been given byes after the withdrawal of Maggotty High and Maldon High, respectively.
The other four Ben Francis Cup quarter-finalists will be decided after Saturday ’s final round of games in the daCosta Cup competition where the four teams, two from each group, that fail to qualify for the semi-finals will join the Ben Francis Cup contenders.
McGrath High, Ben Francis Cup champions two years ago, appear to have already taken their place after losing their first two games in the quarter-finals, beaten by Cornwall College and Glenmuir High in Group B.
