Residents protest New Year’s triple killing in Granville
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Residents took to the streets on New Year’s Day in Granville, St James, following what they said was the killing of three individuals, allegedly, by members of security forces.
Residents armed with placards used old furniture, appliances and other items to block sections of the roadway to protest the deaths.
What seemed to have drawn their ire is that a four-year-old child is among the deceased, along with two adult males.
Residents say the security forces acted without any responsibility in the matter.
“Them kill the baby, four year old baby,” one woman lamented to the media.
Another man cried, “shoot now and ask question after, that them come wid.”
Reports coming forward are that the security forces were responding to an incident of a gun salute when the situation devolved into the current reality.
Residents say the security forces were asking for wanted men after the shooting subsided.
“Them a ask where the wanted man dem deh,” another woman lamented.
Residents are calling for INDECOM and other investigators to launch a probe into the incident.
“We will block the road again,” one resident warned.
