Legacy Isle bounces back with dominant win in ‘Chris’ Armond Memorial Sprint
Legacy Isle (Shackleford — Queenameina), trained by Rohan Crichton, returned to winning ways with a stunning performance in the $2-million Christopher “Chris” Armond Memorial Sprint at Caymanas Park on December 27, 2025.
Ridden by Raddesh “Sneaky Fox” Roman, Legacy Isle demolished rivals, winning by an impressive 12 lengths in the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over 5½ furlongs (1,100m).
Legacy Isle’s winning time of 1:04.2 (23.1 x 46.0 x 57.4) set a new Stakes record, showcasing the bay horse’s exceptional speed and dominance. This win comes after finishing second behind Rideallday in the US$300,000 Mouttet Mile on December 6, 2025.
It was a clean start for the five runners in the race as Legacy Isle battled with Pack Plays (Dane Nelson) for the early lead with California Crown (Tevin Foster), Desert of Malibu (Dane Dawkins), and Dothraki (Robert Halledeen) racing behind.
But once Legacy Isle seized control heading into the half-mile turn it was smooth sailing. Legacy Isle pulled away from his opponents entering the straight and surged to a commanding victory.
Desert of Malibu finished second, while California Crown took third.
Legacy Isle ended 2025 with six win from 10 starts with earnings over $14 million in Stakes.
“It was a pretty easy race,” Roman said.
He continued: “I know this horse very well and so I just try to get a clean break, relax him as much as possible, and save him for the home stretch. He is a very nice horse.”
